The Beginning

bellybutton was founded in 1997 by us five mothers with the purpose of passing on our combined experience of sixteen(!) pregnancies.
Although we are leading completely different lives in various parts of the world, we are united by our passion for motherhood and the ambition to offer the best products that mothers and mothers-to-be may possibly desire.

Our mission
Since the creation of bellybutton, our ambition has been to offer a new experience of pregnancy. We want women to feel fashionable, comfortable and beautiful.

We want them to enjoy their liberties as pregnant women and pamper and cherish themselves with products that provide style and well-being. The accomplishment of our mission, namely the creation of our own maternity brand, has come a long way. Back in 1997, when we set-off, we supplied only to friends and actresses and our business was rather small.

But the word about bellybutton spread quickly and we soon became the most prominent maternity fashion wear label on the German market. Now, we have developed into a very successful company. We continue to grow steadily and work with retailers all over the world.

After the demand of mothers and mothers-to-be for children’s wear was so overwhelming, we decided to do a children’s collection like we imagine children would like to have it: soft materials, good cuts – which allow moving around without restrictions, lovely details to discover and nice, beautiful colours you like to look at.
